Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a safe, loving environment for dogs in need, helping them find their forever homes while educating the community about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare. We focus on rescuing dogs and puppies from high-kill shelters from areas in the US where dogs are typically held for only three to seven days before euthanasia.
At K-9 Lifesavers, we believe dogs deserve a loving family and a chance to thrive. Our team of compassionate volunteers and foster families work tirelessly to rescue and care for dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages.

How can I adopt or meet the dogs?

Where do the dogs come from?
Our rescue dogs and puppies for adoption come from high- kill shelters and high-risk situations in Alabama, Georgia, West Virginia, the Carolina’s, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas and Kentucky, where dogs are only held anywhere from three to seven days before euthanasia.
Are you a non-profit, charitable organization?
Yes we are! K-9 Lifesavers is proud to be a DC area dog rescue. We are an all-volunteer, approved 501(c)(3), private non-profit rescue group, dedicated to saving the lives of homeless and abandoned dogs from high-kill shelters, and other high-risk situations.
What do your volunteers do?
As a uniquely all-volunteer K9 rescue organization, we depend on our volunteers to help our available dogs for adoption at adoption events, act as adoption counselors, foster our beautiful dogs, and more! Read more here.
How else can I help?
Please consider donating to help those pups in need of some extra care and support.
In just the past year we have placed over 800 dogs in their forever homes and have provided heart worm treatment for over 100 dogs. Each month we incur the cost of at least one unplanned surgery and make weekly visits to the emergency vet to treat a wide range of unforeseen issues. Your donations will go a long way.
